Mechatronics Day: competition livestream
Camera, OBS switching, keyed graphics, recording and YouTube streaming for SGU’s multi-day Angkot Master competition, plus training the crew to run it.
Mechatronics Day 2024 at Swiss German University included the Angkot Master competition, where student-built vehicles ran a course over several days. Drawing on the Stratos IV campaign, I set up the livestream so people could follow the runs as they happened.
Setup
- A Sony ZV-E10 on a capture card and a long HDMI run, carried around the course to follow each vehicle.
- OBS for timing, switching, recording and streaming to YouTube.
- Graphics from the PR team: I asked them for a Canva template on a green background, brought it into OBS as a browser layer and keyed out the green so it sat over the live picture.
Running it
I sometimes operated the camera myself, and while I did, I trained another committee member to run OBS. For days 2 and 3 I trained a camera operator so I could stay on stream duty the whole time.
Recordings
The PR team designed the graphics template; my part was integrating it into the live production.
