D03 Morphing Leading-Edge Analysis
Experimental and numerical evaluation of TU Delft's LeaTop morphing-wing demonstrator using strain data, FEM, photogrammetry, and energy analysis.
Group D03 evaluated the mechanical effectiveness and structural behavior of TU Delft’s LeaTop morphing leading-edge demonstrator.
The work combined finite-element displacement and strain data with experimental fiber measurements and photogrammetry. We transformed strains into the local skin coordinate system, compared the simulated deformation with the aerodynamic target, and evaluated the actuation energy required by the concept.
Reported result
The demonstrator reached a 7.73° rotation, exceeding its 5° minimum requirement, and sufficiently matched the target shape. The structural analysis found bending strain to be dominant, while axial strain was approximately an order of magnitude smaller.
Evidence and limits
The associated Group D03 report is presented as a TU Delft course scientific paper, not as a peer-reviewed journal publication. It used a provided experimental dataset, so the paper records the limitation that the authors did not control or fully observe the original data-collection process.
